After the last few classes, I feel the need to reinforce class etiquette to ensure that we follow these basic guidelines for both Zoom and when we are in person. COVID has shifted our class structure but it will not shift our etiquette.
- Full doboks are required. This means, your uniform top, pants and belt. If you are not in full uniform you may not be allowed to enter class. There are no exceptions unless we are outside.
- Please be dressed BEFORE entering the Zoom room. You wouldn’t get dressed on the mats, please don’t get dressed on Zoom.
- Please be on time. I realize we often start slowly, especially on Saturday mornings but please try to arrive/be on Zoom before class is scheduled to start.
- If you come to class late, please enter class/Zoom quietly, standing in choon be until the instructor acknowledges you. At that time you must ask for permission to enter class and bow to your instructor.
- You must answer directions when given with the appropriate “Yes Ma’am” or “Yes Sir”.
- If you need to correct or straighten your dobok, please turn your back to the camera/instructor and do so.
- Parents, I realize class on Zoom often happens in your living rooms or other “public” spaces. To the best of your ability, please refrain from walking through the room where your student is training. It’s challenging enough to train on Zoom, keeping distractions to a minimum will go a long way toward helping your student stay focused.
I appreciate everyone’s attention to these details. Tang Soo Do is a traditional martial art which means we follow the above guidelines (and more!) to the best of our ability.
